Stay Compliant: Ohio Publishes Revised Equal Opportunity Notice
Labor law posters are the mandated federal and state law notices that must be displayed by employers. While major changes often come into effect in January of each year, it's important to note that changes to labor law also occur throughout the year. As such, posters must be updated regularly to ensure that businesses do remain compliant.
In June 2021 an updated Equal Opportunity Notice was published by the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. The update revised the law to include both gender identity and sexual orientation as criteria protected by law. It also increases the time to file a complaint to two years.
Which Businesses Need to Post This Update?
Any businesses operating within the state of Ohio that have one or more employees must post this change. This needs to be included with other mandatory changes to State and Federal law. Mandatory changes such as this one represent a major change in the wording of the law. In this case, employees now have added time to file s discrimination complaint.
The new posters must be displayed in an area that is conspicuous and there must be one poster per office address. Posters can be displayed in areas such as break rooms where they will be accessible and viewable by all employees.
The updated posters should be displayed immediately to avoid any consequences of your business no longer being compliant.
