Novato, California, is the first city in this article that has three minimum wages, with these minimum wages being separated by the size of the business. First, “small businesses” are defined as having 25 or fewer employees. Second, “large businesses” are defined as having anywhere between 26 to 99 employees. Lastly, “very large businesses” are defined as having 100 or more employees. A minimum wage of $16.04/hr must be paid to employees of a small business, $16.60/hr to employees of a large business, and $16.86/hr to employees of a very large business. All three are effective January 1st, 2024.
