Oregon Agricultural Field Sanitation Notice
The Oregon Agricultural Field Sanitation Notice informs agricultural workers about required field sanitation facilities and safe hygiene practices. Oregon employers that grow or harvest food crops intended for human consumption are required to post the Field Sanitation Notice for affected workers.
This 17 x 11-inch workplace poster helps communicate employer responsibilities for providing safe drinking water, toilet facilities, handwashing facilities, and reasonable access to those facilities during the workday.
Who Is Required to Post the Oregon Field Sanitation Notice?
Under Oregon OSHA requirements, employers that grow or harvest food crops intended for human consumption must post a Field Sanitation Notice when employees perform covered agricultural hand-labor operations in the field.
The posting requirement is addressed under OAR 437-004-1110, Field Sanitation for Hand Labor Work. Oregon OSHA's general posting requirements also require affected employers engaged in the production of food crops intended for human consumption to permanently display the Field Sanitation Notice.
What Does the Notice Cover?
The Oregon Field Sanitation Notice provides workers with information about important sanitation requirements, including:
- Safe and potable drinking water
- Accessible toilet facilities
- Handwashing facilities with potable water, soap, and single-use towels
- Reasonable opportunities for employees to use sanitation facilities
- Good hygiene practices for agricultural field workers
- Information about filing field sanitation complaints
Language and Posting Requirements
Oregon OSHA requires the Field Sanitation Notice to be provided in the language of the majority of affected workers. English and Spanish versions are available.
The notice should be displayed where affected employees can readily see it. Oregon OSHA guidance recommends locations such as near toilet and handwashing facilities or other areas where field workers regularly congregate.
Oregon Agricultural Posting Compliance
This is a specialized agricultural posting and may be required in addition to Oregon's generally required workplace notices. Employers should review their operations to determine which state, federal, and industry-specific postings apply.
